Guitar Motivation - Why You Can't Seem To Keep Playing

So you go out and get that new snazzy guitar, have a couple quick jam sessions, and then just can't take it anymore. It seems pretty odd, but you might be like hundreds of other beginning guitarists that become frustrated and can't regain the drive to continue playing.

As much as frustration occurs to discourage someone beginning the guitar, being able to realize why you get frustrated can aide in continuing the process. Here are some of the most common reasons that individuals lose their guitar motivation and give up.

1. You can't find any time. As hard as it is to believe, there's always time to learn something new even with the obligations of your family and job. The key to learning something new is forcing even the smallest amount of time into your normal schedule like five to ten minutes, just to gain some momentum and enjoyment.

2. You're not making goals. Goals are what can keep you driving forward and looking towards the future. By setting goals for yourself, you now have an obligation to make more time and to achieve a reasonable success that will fuel your guitar motivation.

3. Your goals are not reasonable. You might have set goals, but it's even more detrimental if those goals ask too much of your abilities. Set goals that are small and sequential so you can gain a little gratification each time you reach one that will motivate you to set yet another.

4. You don't play what you enjoy hearing. Sure, you know that scales and practice riffs are essential to improving, but if that's all you attempt to play, it's no wonder you don't enjoy the guitar. Postpone your progress goals every now and then so you can play for actual enjoyment to keep your spirits up.

5. You don't write out what you hope to accomplish. A very powerful motivation technique is to create a personal contract for yourself that states what you promise to accomplish and then signing it. It sounds corny, but your chances of completing your goals are much higher with this tangible item to remind you.

6. You don't want to fail. Failure is one of the worst common fears and it's even prevalent in learning new talents such as the guitar. Just remind yourself that you have nothing to lose, that it's a talent that can stay hidden if you want, and you can go at any pace you desire.

There are a lot of things that can stand in your way of learning the guitar and that's why it might be hard to pick up the instrument again. Let's face it; the Xbox 360 has been around for quite some time already and since it first appeared on the shelves, we've had the opportunity to play some fantastic games, many of which have left us with very fond memories. Of course it only stands to reason that we'd love to see the production companies producing a few more. On the other hand, we've also seen a few titles which leave a lot to be desired.

Let's face it, games are not cheap and when we have to fork out a lot of money for a game, we expect it to be good. At the very least, we don't expect the production companies to release a game simply because they feel their profits need to be boosted. What makes it worse, is that a game can still be good even if it has a poor story line. Even when the story is useless, providing there are some truly memorable characters, most of us will be happy.

Perhaps you had the misfortune of playing a game called "Two World's"? Fair enough, I suppose there were a handful of people who enjoyed it but I think it's safe to assume that the vast majority simply hated it. Not only were the graphics terrible, but the sound and control configuration were just as bad. In fact, there really was nothing good about it at all.

Then along came "Hour-of-Victory" which you may not have heard of considering it was a total failure. Unfortunately, if this game had been released a year or two sooner then it may have been enjoyable. By the time it was released however, the graphics and sound quality simply couldn't be compared to other games. Furthermore, at the time it was released, it certainly couldn't compete against games such as the "Call-of-Duty" franchise. All in all, it was simply terrible.

Vampire games are cool, right? Well, not Vampire Rain. When you want a stealth game, you want it to be a bit of a challenge like the Splinter Cell games. Fighting vampires is bad, because they are powerful, but if you can sneak past them and knock them by mistake and still continue sneaking around there has to be something wrong. This game fell apart the second it started. There are tons of cut scenes in the game that is intervened by lengthy loading times. Sound and graphics are average. Mix all these problems together and you get an awful vampire stew.

Perhaps the biggest insult of all was a game called "Jumper" which was based on a movie. When programmers are expected to take a game which was originally intended for a cheap machine and tweak it so that it can be used on a new platform, then they need to be given some credit if they pull it off. However, that certainly wasn't the case with Jumper in that it used PS2 graphics from beginning to end. In fact it left many people wondering if it wasn't released with the intention of being an insult to the gaming community.

Let's face it, there's no shortage of terrible games out there and unfortunately many of us become victims in that we only discover we've wasted our money when it's too late.
