For the musically unaccustomed, however, they can sound a bit like threatening, difficult terms to understand. If you're a beginner when it comes to playing the piano, it is essential for you to understand these because, like it or not, you will encounter them as you go about your lessons. One of the things you will learn about is how to play piano chords.

First of all, what are piano chords anyway? Simply put, piano chords are a combination of notes in a single key played simultaneously. The most basic chords consist of three notes. For example, take a look at the piano keyboard and look for two black keys placed together; the white key to the immediate left is C. Press C, then the second key after C, and the second key after that. That is what is basically known as the C major chord. There are twelve major chords all in all: C, G, F, D, E, A, Db, Eb, Ab, Gb, B, and Bb.

You can look up the positions of these chords and practice each of them on your own. When you practice playing them, just remember that it's not necessary to be able to play them quickly. The major chords are not the only ones you can play, but they're the right ones you should be learning first before moving on to the other types of chords.
