11 Uncommonly Fantastic Films For Your Entertainment Satisfaction

By Darell Rollins

Sgt. Bilko - An army comedy with Steve Martin, Dan Akroyd and Phil Hartman. Sgt Bilko does fundamentally everything but army duties with his platoon of soldiers. Life in Sgt. Bilko's army is rather nice. That is until Major Thorn shows up and attempts to ruin the fun.

The Geisha Boy - Jerry, an incompetent warlock, voyages to Japan with tragic repercussions. Imaginative graphic gags; there is a cute pattern characterizing the Los Angeles Dodgers and, purposely, Gil Hodges. Cast includes Barbara Stanwyck, Ben Lyon, Joan Blondell, Clark Gable, Charlotte Merriam, and Charles Winninger.

Thief of Baghdad - Reeves looks for the mysterious blue rose so he could wed the Sultan's baby girl. This is nothing like the Sabu interpretation, although this is a good piece of work. Cast includes Steve Reeves, Giorgia Moll, Arturo Dominici, and Edy Vessel. (90 minutes, 1961)

Kill or Be Killed - Karate champions lock limbs as ex-Nazi instructor desires payback contrary to Japanese counterpart who bested him in a contest all through WW2. Sawdust and Tinsel - Kindles soar in this beautiful, metaphorical film set in a small-time carnival and focusing on the relation between carnival owner Gronberg and his oversexed mistress (Andersson). AI Artificial Intelligence - In the near future, scientist Hurt and his team create a greatly advanced android child who might face feelings, containing love. His adoption by a nice couple who have lost a child is riddled with complications. This enchanting tale draws us in, thanks in part to Osment's superb performance. Seize the Day - Williams is outstanding as Tommy Wilhelm, turning 40 and a failure by any standard, he is insolvent, damaged and hopeless for love. Wiseman and Stiller offer fine aid as his cold hearted dad and a con man he naively believes in. Lots of familiar faces in tiny roles - Tony Roberts, Richard Shull, John Fiedler, Jo Van Fleet, William Hickey, Eileen Heckart, and numerous others. Cast includes Robin Williams, Joseph Wiseman, Jerry Stiller, and Glenne Headly. (93 minutes, 1986)

McKinney and Coward are two of the most terrible film scoundrels in history. The "Dueling Banjos" scene is very memorable. Film debuts of Beatty and Cox. James Dickey modified his own novel, and appears in the film as a sheriff. Ed O'Neill appears as a freeway watcher near end of film. Cast includes Cast includes Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty, Ronny Cox, Billy McKinney, Herbert "Cowboy" Coward, and James Dickey. - 18423
