Guitar Buying For The Beginner

By Kim Clarebrooke

If you have made the decision to take up guitar playing, then the next step if going to be choosing a guitar that you can learn on. You will have a handful of choices, from the electric, bass to the acoustic guitar. It will all depend on your personal preferences though.

Try to ask yourself what fits your taste for music. Are you more on the heavy metal side or just plainly characterized by the Spanish feel? Choosing depends on the type of music you listen to or appreciate.

Either way once you have an idea of what type of guitar you want to get, it is still going to be a hassle narrowing it down to a final decision to purchase. That is why I will go over some important things to consider when you are wanting to buy a guitar.

I already mentioned the importance of playing what you like to listen to. This will narrow the 2 choices between electric and acoustic down to one, then you will just have to pick a certain brand and model, which is the hard part.

Money is the most important thing. For someone that is just learning, it is not recommended to go out and go broke from buying a guitar, you just want something that you can learn on. While you want to find the cheapest guitar you can, you do not want something that wont stay in tune.

Dont go after something you love yet the price isnt that friendly. But if you saw something that made your heart melt, and you would really like to have it, ask someone who works inside, a salesperson, perhaps, who could help you work out on something, like paying for it on an installment basis.

Decide on the kind of features that your guitar would have. Acoustic guitars would be harder to learn on, but once you learn on an acoustic, making the switch to an electric will be much easier than if you did it the other way around.

With a wide variety of guitars nowadays its hard to determine whether you have made a good choice, from electric to bass, acoustic to classical, and so much more to choose from. Most beginners elaborate more on the tune, while others side with the style.

Still, if you cant decide between two great choices, have a friend who is skilled on playing a guitar accompany you and let him determine which one would be more appropriate. There are also plenty of guitar forums and blogs out there for beginners that are extremely helpful. - 18423
