Get Set For The Explosion Of Michael Jackson Books
As with most true megastars, Michael Jackson has provided food and drink to authors and leading publishers the world over. In death too, this culture is set to continue, and indeed increase for many years to come, as a host of Michael Jackson books start appearing in bookstores.
For the millions of loyal supporters, UK publisher Harper Collins will become the biggest house to launch its effort. Delivered from concept to print in just 3 weeks, "Michael Jackson - Legend, Hero, Icon", is set to go straight to the top of the bestsellers as it hits UK markets Friday July 17.
With a subtitle of, "A tribute to the King of Pop", the tone of the book is reflective on the successes of Jackson's career as the best entertainer the world has ever witnessed. Mindful that many thousands of fans are still coming to terms with the loss; particularly with the timing just weeks before his "This Is It", tour, this is unsurprising.
Whilst Harper Collins pulled out all the stops to get the book to print, (hiring a freelance author to write 10, 000 words of new material in just 48 hours), it is not the first of new Michael Jackson books made available.
A book long in the making, "Unmasked: The Final Years of Michael Jackson", was originally scheduled to go to print the day after the creator of the Moonwalk's death. It was delayed for a week as a mark of respect to the grieving family. Though respect did not seem to be much of an issue when the book was originally conceived and written; being rich in conjuncture and rumor.
The delay in printing, said to be out of a mark of respect to the Jackson family, also allowed Halperin to close his book more conclusively than even he could have imagined.
The first completely new book since his untimely death is most likely to be found in China. Appearing in stores from Saturday July 7, two writers worked tirelessly over a 48 hour period to deliver the copy.
Unlike Halperin's effort, "Moonwalk in Paradise" is the work of two dedicated Michael Jackson fans, and is clearly a celebration of his life. One of the authors, Jiang Xiaoyu, does admit it may contain a few errors however; pointing to the time constraints they worked under, and their personal approach to research.
These Michael Jackson books may well be the first to hit the shelves, but there will be more. Whilst the book industry has not been damaged as severely as other industries throughout this recession, this boost to sales will be a welcome shot in the arm. - 18423
