The House of Yes: On a stormy day in 1983, a youthful gentleman brings his fiancee home to meet his broken Washington, D.C, family, containing his demented twin sis, Jackie-O, whose fantasies in Jacqueline Kennedy have lengthened to the point of reenacting the JFK assassination-with live bullets. Well made black comedy, based on the stage production by Wendy MacLeod. Cast includes Parker Posey, Josh Harnilton, Tori Spelling, Freddie Prinze, Jr., Genevieve Bujold, and Rachael Leigh Cook. The Occurring: Light hearted and light headed caper tale focusing around abducting of a now honorable used to be gangster (Quinn). This is Dunaway's film debut. The title melody became No. 1 hit for The Supremes. Hannibal Rising: Hannibal as a youngster at the end of WW2 he had to watch when Nazi collaborators abused his younger sis! As a youthful adult (Dlliel), empowered by his Japanese mothers sibling, he hunts down the killers and imposes cruel reprisal. Handsome however ponderous, dull and self-vital, albeit on no account as gory as may be anticipated. Cast includes Gaspard Ulliel, Rhys Ifans, Gong Li, Helena Lia Tachovska, Dominic West, Aaron Thomas, Kevin McKidd, and Richard Brake. (121 minutes, 2007)
Night Nurse: Phenomenal, hard story of nurse (Stanwyck) who couldn't disregard bizarre goings on in home where she works. Blondell adds zingy aid and it is one of Gable's most impressive early appearances. Cast includes Barbara Stanwyck, Ben Lyon, Joan Blondell, Clark Gable, Charlotte Merriam, and Charles Winninger.
Southland Tales: Impressive cast is trashed in an overlong, overwrought wallow set in 2008 Southern California three years after a catastrophic atomic assault on Texas has turned America into a patrol state. Concentrates on a few individuals trying to subsist in this post apocalyptic atmosphere, including a B action film performer, a porn megastar turned Television commentator, and an L.A. patrol officer with a split personality. Cast includes Dwayne Johnson, Seann William Scott, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Mandy Moore, Justin Timberlake, Nora Dunn, John Larroquette, Bai Ling, Jon Lovilz, Cheri Oteri, Amy Poehler, Lou Taylor Pucci, Miranda Richardson, Wallace Shawn, Holmes Osborne, Kevin Smith, Christopher Lambert, Janeane Garofolo, Beth Grant, Zelda Rubinstein, and Curtis Armstrong.
