Guitar Lesson News for 2010

By Elizabeth Gibson

News for 2010 in the world of guitar lessons for beginners - DVDs are becoming a popular choice (vs. online lessons). One of the most respected creators of learning materials, Legacy Learning Systems, has always provided their courses on DVDs and CDs. But now, one of their competitors, Jamorama, has released what they call their "Hard Copy" edition so that you no longer have to download their tutorials and learning materials.

Online lessons or downloads of videos for learning are here to stay, but with many people preferring to use their new wide-screen TVs to view their guitar course, the DVDs remain a popular and beneficial choice. Why would DVDs be better? For one, you don't have to view them from a computer, any DVD player will do. Also, you can view them on your television instead of your computer screen. This means you can set up a more comfortable spot to do your lessons (and possibly look forward to learning even more).

Another benefit with DVD lessons is that they allow you to take your lessons with you - you can go to a friend's house and, as long as they have a DVD player, you can view them there. Or you can take the jam along CDs to use whereever you have a CD player available.

Of course, there are several benefits with online lessons - they can be accessed immediately or viewed from any computer with the required capabilities. The better known downloadable courses are good for beginners (some even have free lessons to get you started). But it is great to know that there are more choices for DVDs in 2010 if you prefer having a course shipped to you on disks.

As a choice in DVD guitar lessons, much can be said about the value in the Learn and Master Guitar lessons course. Steve Krenz is the teacher and along with Legacy Learning Systems (producers of professional training materials) this team has won many awards. Though it's not the lowest priced course on the market, it is one of the most complete guitar learning programs available (with 20 DVDs and 5 Jam Along CDs, as well as a printed workbook and an online community to connect with other students and also with the teacher).

If you have ever looked at the Jamorama guitar lessons website in the past, you may have felt confused about what their course includes (I know I have). For 2010, they have redesigned it and changed their course offerings to 3 clearly distinguishable lesson plans. The Standard Edition is the one they have been offering since 2005. But now they have an improved Advanced Edition (all of the standard edition with an extra software bonus and more intense intermediate and advanced lessons for playing acoustic guitar, plus special lesson for playing lead guitar and electric guitar riffs). They all come with books, too. And the best new option they have is a DVD and CD option so that you no longer are required to get the lessons by downloading everything.

Either way you look at it, the money you will have to spend on guitar lessons is not nearly as costly as the blood, sweat and tears or the dedication and time you will spend learning. Your commitment is the real ingredients that you will need to invest so that you can learn to be a great guitar player. - 18423
