Romero is more moody than cold-blooded as Dr. Halliday, and Kelly is the gal from his past who reminds the Dr. of his earlier, saner days as an obstetrician. Fascinating inside view of swindlers in action, although Vaughn's ambivalent personality flattens the film's dramatic tightness rather than heightening it. Excellent acting jobs help.
