Pavilion of Women: A slowly developing myth set in 1938 China in reference to freedom vs. feudalism. A loyal woman falls for an American minister when her child longs for his dad's new concubine. Shot on location in China. Cast includes Luo Yan, Willem Dafoe, Shek Sau, John Cho, Yi Ding, Koh Chieng Mun, and Anita Loo. (119 minutes, 2001)

Black Windmill the Dracula: This is a classic terror film of the Transylvanian vampire performing his malevolent spell on puzzled group of Londoners. Lugosi's most renowned role with his definitive explanation of the Tally, ditto Frye as loony Renfield and Van Sloan as unflappable Professor Van Helsing. Cast includes Bela Lugosi, David Behaviors, Helen Chandler, Dwight Frye, Edward Van Sloan, Herbert Bunston, and Frances Dade. (75 minutes, 1931)

The Front Page: The third filming of the Hecht-MacArthur play about a crazy and woolly Chicago newspaperman in the 1920s has barely anything new to offer (with the exception of 4-letter words) although it continues to be an entertaining piece of work. Cast includes Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, Carol Burnett, Susan Sarandon, Vincent Gardenia, David Wayne, Allen Garfield, Austin Pendleton, and Charles Dunning. (105 minutes, 1974)

Lydia: The emotional story of an older woman (Oberon) meeting her prior beaux and recalling their courtship. Cast includes Merle Oberon, Edna Might Oliver, Alan Marshal, Joseph Cotton, Hans Yaray, and George Reeves. (104 minutes, 1941)

Patton: This milestone in biographies finds Scott vivid as offbeat, radiant General George Patton, whose temper often erupts on demand during WW2. Malden is comparably impressive as General Omar Bradley in this intelligently written, finely wrought biographical war drama. Cast includes George C. Scott, Karl Malden, Stephen Youthful, Michael Hefty, Frank Latimore, James Edwards, Lawrence Dobkin, Michael Bates, and Tim Considine. (169 minutes, 1970)
