Changing the Face of Country Music The Way Carrie Underwood Does It
Carrie Underwood had a life-changing experience that fateful day in 2005 when she won in the fourth season of American Idol. Since then, the Idol champ has enjoyed a very fruitful music career.
Her Idol win has paved the way for a string of successes for this Checotah-native who has instantly captured the competition's judges when she sang Bonnie Rait's "I Can't Make You Love Me" during her audition. Since getting the golden ticket to Hollywood, Carrie Underwood has not stopped hitting it high with her songs and eventually took the title of American Idol.
For four seasons, Kelly Clarkson, the first Idol winner solely brandished the Idol banner in the mainstream music scene. This despite the fact that there have been two other winners after her: Ruben Studdard and Fantasia Barrino. Aside from second season runner up Clay Aikem, Kelly was the only notable Idol contestant ruling the charts. But all of that changed when Carrie Underwood joined the champs' circle.
That changed when Carrie won the show. Prior to the release of her debut album Some Hearts, she first released the track "Inside Your Heaven" and enjoyed great airplay. She then went on to release a string of hits starting with "Jesus, Take the Wheel," "Wasted," "I Ain't in Checotah Anymore," "Before He Cheats," and a lot more. Her first album did so well it stayed at the top of the Billboard Albums chart in 2007 for eleven weeks!
She managed to nab several awards for her first venture into the music scene. Her single "Jesus, Take the Wheel" was responsible for her awards given by different award-giving bodies like the Gospel Music Association, CMT, Academy of Country Music, Country Music Association, American Music Awards, Billboard, and the Grammys.
Although she has already enjoyed a very good music career with her first album, Carrie Underwood didn't stop there. When she released her second record Carnival Ride, she added five more number one country hits to her resume: "So Small," "All American Girl," "Last Name," "Just a Dream," and "I Told You So."
After four years, Carrie Underwood has done excellently well in terms of record sales compared to other American Idol contestants. She has sold nearly 10 million copies worldwide as well as 10.7 million digital downloads. She also has several endorsement deals that added to her income. Since June 2008, she has earned about $14 million. Forbes.com recently named her as the top earner out of all the American Idol contestants, surpassing Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, and Jennifer Hudson.
Her musical success is clearly undeniable. In a short span of time, Carrie Underwood has already achieved what other artists could only dream of. - 18423
