Life on tour as a musician is tough.
If you've ever dreamed of being a rock-star who gets all the girls you are probably in for a rude awakening. It rarely works out that way and most musicians end up touring underfunded and under-promoted.
You've imagined fancy restaurants and fancy private planes. Instead it's stale chips and fighting over the last can of diet coke. Instead of a private seating at a steakhouse you have to make do at 7-eleven when you stop for gas out in the middle of nowhere.
Even if you are a very successful touring musician it is hard to feel truly rested on tour. Traveling from city to city, rehearsals, none of the comforts of home and you are bound to burn out. No matter how much you like being in front of an audience the rest of the time you are trying not to be bored.
There tends to be a lot of fighting between band and tour members. On top of being tired you are spending tons of time with the same people under less than perfect circumstances. Think about it. Even band that make millions touring break up because they can't stand being in the same room as the other guys.
Musicians endure a lot for doing what they love. The energy from the crowd can make it all worth it. The joy of performing and having others appreciate what they have created is one of the greatest things a musical artist has the privilege of feeling.
Following their dreams and sharing their gifts is what keeps many talented musicians on the road. Many talented people will never make money at being on the road or being in a band but for love of their music they will endure pretty much anything. - 18423
